Uso doméstico
(2015 -2016)
This project is focused on the acid violence, defined as the act of throwing acid or corrosive substances onto the body of another, mainly due to jealousy affairs. In the last decade, this form of violence has increased in Colombia, and has affected mostly women. “Uso doméstico”, which means for household use in Spanish, refers to one of the core causes of the acid attacks: the lack of regulation for the acid sales, which makes them easily accessible as household products at very low prices.
My interest on this topic came from the relation of these chemical weapons to some materials used in printmaking. I am intrigued by the duality of an acid, as it is used to etch a matrix for a creative purpose, it also has the potential of leaving permanent marks on someone else’s body. This body of work meets a series of drawings, prints, and objects .
